S2-2: "Ancestry: Tracing Your Lineage"

January 4, 2018  |  3:00-5:00 pm

Description: Genealogy, the study of one’s ancestry or family history, is one of the most popular hobbies in the world. People of all faiths and nationalities enjoy discovering where they come from. Expertise and skill levels vary considerably from novice to professional genealogy gurus. Genealogy is essentially the study of information, which makes it important to learn where to source facts when you first start out. You can begin using what you know, like family documents and oral history. Once you start looking, a whole world of evidence will be opened up to you. Learn how to get started and do your own research using some of the most powerful tools available to amateur ancestry enthusiasts. Connect with others who have similar goals to trace their lineage and learn from everyone’s collective experiences. You will be introduced to basic genealogy concepts and learn how to get started investigating your lineage. This group will meet regularly to share stories and advice, and to discuss interesting findings.
Designed for: Anyone interested in how to trace their ancestry and connect with others doing the same
Facilitators: John Martin, Bob MacDonald, and Bob Peck
