G1: "Adolf Hitler – The Rise, Fall, and Aftermath of a Dictator"

March 2, 2018  |  10:00-12:00 pm

Description: Fascism is a political ideology that started with Mussolini and his hunger for Italy to be a great and powerful state like the ancient Roman Empire. Fascism is based on extreme nationalism focused on mainly military power to control the people. It is also based on militaristic ideals of “courage, unquestioning obedience to authority, discipline, and physical strength.” In countries like Germany, Hitler thrived for a Volksgemeinschaft, or a people’s community; and he achieved his goals by military control and dictatorship over the government. What happens to a society when its members seek to make sense of apparent chaos in their midst? Many factors appear to contribute to the search for simplified solutions to very complex and tumultuous societal problems. To what extent do the checks and balances that exist protect societies from the rise of another dictator?
Designed for: Anyone interested in history and in protecting democracy from decline and decay
