S12: "How to Have an Effective 'Difficult Conversation'"

Description: A “difficult conversation” is defined by three characteristics: stakes are high, parties don’t see “eye to eye,” and emotions play a role in the conversation. Many people avoid such conversations, while others try to control or dominate the conversation. Neither approach yields effective outcomes. This program will provide a model for having a difficult conversation, and participants will have the opportunity to role play, if they so desire; however, role playing will not be required nor will participants be actively encouraged to role play.
Designed for: Anyone interested in learning more about managing difficult interactions more effectively.
