G3: "Amazon Woman"

March 9, 2018  |  9:30-11:30 am

Description: The Amazon River is the world’s second longest river, but when it comes to the sheer volume of water flowing through it, no other river even comes close. The rivers and streams of the Amazon basin teem with life, and the forest canopy resonates with the cries of birds and monkeys and the whine of insects. What would drive a modern American woman of the healthcare industry to not just travel to the Amazon, but to take up a permanent residence on one of the thousands of tributaries of the Amazon River? Leaving behind most of her contemporary amenities, Joanne prepared herself for life at the fringes of modern society. She adapted to her newfound pioneer lifestyle, overcame unfamiliar challenges, and carved out her own slice of paradise in the Amazon. Joanne’s intrepid nature helped her not just to survive, but to thrive. How did she transcend the language barrier to mitigate the construction of her own vacation destination on the Amazon? Join Joanne as she recounts her adventures as a real life Amazon Woman and resort owner.
Designed for: Anyone interested in hearing about living on the frontier of the Amazon
