S1: "A Writer’s Life: The Stories Behind the Stories"

March 27, 2018  |  10:00-12:00 pm

Description: Over her 30-year career as a staff feature writer at major metro daily newspapers, Catherine has had some memorable assignments. Some notable experiences include a champagne garden party with Ralph Lauren, a pricey lunch at New York’s Four Seasons with Oleg Cassini, a rainy-day chat with Jimmy Carter on a half-finished rooftop, and a somber interview with a convicted murderer on a Death Row cell block in Texas. However, her most memorable assignment came the harrowing morning of September 11th, 2001, when her job took her to Manhattan to cover New York Fashion Week and she wound up covering the World Trade Center attacks. Her book-length account of 9/11 from the streets of Manhattan has been accessioned in the State History Society of Missouri archives. Catherine has since published two novels with her third, a heartwarming family memoir, set for release in September of 2017. Join Catherine as she recounts the highlights of her distinguished writing career and get sound advice from a professional about writing your very own polished and engaging memoir that will be treasured for generations to come.
