S4 Contact! Now What?

Description: For millennia, we've pondered the notion of whether we are alone in the universe. At the moment, life on Earth is the only known life in the universe. Several theories and speculative thought have been given in support of both sides of the debate but with the advancement of technology along with our understanding of life and extremophiles, evidence overwhelmingly points to the probability that we are not alone. And, contact will come, not by us but by them. "What Now?" will not be our determination but theirs. That's not to present a threat but the reality is that they will be tens of thousands, millions or perhaps even billions of years beyond our civilization. The effect on our civilization will be incredible not only technologically (medicine, physics and all the sciences), but also global political structures and even perhaps our theological understanding. How are NASA's Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) and Messaging Extraterrestrial Intelligence (METI) programs contributing to the search for intelligent life? What will be their protocol when they find out that we are not alone?
