The Quran - A Revelation from God

Friday | March 29th 2019 | 9:30-11:30 am

Widely regarded as the finest work in classical Arabic literature, the Quran (literally meaning “the recitation”) is the central religious text of Islam. Muslims believe that the Quran was orally revealed by God to the final Prophet, Muhammad, through the archangel Gabriel over a period of some 23 years beginning when Muhammad was 40 and concluding the year of his death.

Many misconceptions about the Quran exist and it can be hard to sort out the truth from what has been taken out of context or completely fabricated to fit a narrative. During this presentation, we will review the essential beliefs and practices prescribed in the Quran’s “surrahs” or chapters, including monotheism vs idolatry, compulsion vs freedom of religion, descriptions of paradise, the “sword” verses and calls to violence, rights of women and wives, and the “satanic” verses.

Join us for this thoughtful discussion to better understand the context behind the text.
