T2: Dropbox, Google Drive & OneDrive - What is Cloud Computing and how does it work?
November 1, 2019 · 9:30-11:30 am
Description: The cloud is ubiquitous. It's everywhere even though we rarely notice it. You interact with the cloud starting first thing in the morning as you check your phone for the weather before you even get out of bed. The cloud is there again when you use your phone's maps app to check traffic before leaving your house. The term "cloud" when talking about technology or computing, is not new. Historically, 'cloud' has been used as a metaphor for the internet, but overuse of this term has created confusion as to what 'the cloud' actually is and how it works. Cloud Computing is a model for sharing resources and enabling on-demand access to things like data storage, software, and processing. Cloud based services like Dropbox, Google Drive and OneDrive continue gaining in popularity because people love being able to store their files on one of these cloud based service providers and then being able to access those files from any computer (or most mobile devices) with internet access from anywhere in the world. All three operate under similar principles, more or less, however we will focus on Dropbox. In this clinic, participants will learn all about cloud based services and be shown how to download and install Dropbox along with a general tutorial for use.
Purpose: Learn about cloud computing and how to download and utilize a cloud based service
