Leonardo da Vinci was a true genius. He is among the most influential artists in history, having left a significant legacy not only in the realm of art but in science as well, each discipline informing his mastery of the other. Da Vinci lived in a golden age of creativity among such contemporaries as Raphael and Michelangelo, and contributed his unique genius to virtually everything he touched. Today, no name better symbolizes the Renaissance age than Leonardo da Vinci. He was driven by an insatiable curiosity that led him to explore ideas in music, math, architecture, design, engineering, geology, hydraulics, anatomy, optics, cartography, sculpting, drawing and, of course, painting. His surviving work as a painter is remarkably slim: Fewer than 20 artworks can be comfortably attributed to him, although two of them -- the "Mona Lisa" and "The Last Supper" -- are easily among the most famous in the world.
