After a chance meeting several years ago with a Ukrainian cab driver who served in WWII alongside American troops, Gulf War veteran and professional photographer, Richard Sherman, began to ponder how he could thank these individuals that he would never meet. In the end, he decided to express his gratitude the same way he would if that individual was still alive: he would simply go and visit them and say "thank you." Over the course of eight trips spanning six years, Mr. Sherman visited and photographed all of the American overseas WWI and WWII cemeteries: from Normandy to Tunis, from Italy to Luxembourg, and from the Philippines to Belgium. This lengthy journey of gratitude culminated with his first published book, "Never Home: Remembering the Military Heroes Who Never Returned," in April 2024.

Purpose: Hear stories and see photographs from this amazing journey to honor American soldiers who never came back home

Facilitator: Richard Sherman (Guest Presenter – Estero, FL)
