November 3, 2017  |  10:00-11:30 am

Description: Kaliningrad (Koenigsberg) is a small Soviet enclave on the Baltic Sea, just to the North of Poland and west of Lithuania. Taken over by treaty, by the USSR from Germany in 1945, it contains a large Soviet Air base, Naval Port on the Baltic Sea and a military complex with nuclear rocket forces. It serves as the western tip of the Soviet military spear. The plains of Northern Germany, (The Fulda Gap) is currently open for Soviet Armor to overrun northwestern Europe, as the Germans did in 1940 and 1944. Kaliningrad is an active front-line position where steel meets steel. Learn about Kaliningrad’s history, Russia’s current use of the site, and what future scenarios might look like involving NATO.
Designed for: Anyone who wants to learn about this important strategic enclave and its role in European security
