F10: You Don't Know What You Don't Know: A Woman's Survival Guide to Finances

· 1:00-3:00 pm
Description: While there are signs of improvement, women continue to lag behind men in financial literacy. This persistent gender gap negatively impacts the financial well-being of women since financial literacy has been linked to a number of important outcomes, including wealth accumulation, stock market participation, and retirement planning. What's more, many women affected by the financial literacy gender gap may be ashamed of their lack of a financial education or of their dire financial situation. As a result, these women are reluctant to seek help or educational resources. Between the pay disparity, unpaid family caretaking, greater longevity, increased health care costs, and reduced retirement benefits, the dominoes are stacked up against women. However women have no option but to learn how to manage their finances because in all likelihood they will eventually be the sole money manager in their household either because they are divorced, widowed or single. 80 percent of men die married while 80 percent of women die single. For women, financial independence is a matter of necessity.
Purpose: Expand your knowledge on topics every lady should be comfortable with in the world of finances
